Dissociation is a complex sensory and psychological experience—a state of disconnection from awareness, perception, emotions, and even the body itself. It is a defense mechanism of the nervous system, triggered in response to trauma—moments of threat, terror, or deep emotional neglect. While the dissociative response may be helpful during the event, it leaves lasting and intricate imprints that can emerge long after the trauma has ended.

This exhibition is especially relevant now, a year and a half after the outbreak of the Iron Swords War, and particularly during this second phase of the return of the hostages. As a result of the war, many civilians and soldiers are experiencing symptoms of post-trauma, including dissociation. Dissociation affects a person’s ability to understand who they are and to grasp a cohesive sense of self, due to the fractures created by trauma.
Statements like, "I am not the same person I was before the war/battle/event..." reflect a disconnection from parts of the self. Dissociation also makes it difficult to connect with others—whether family members, partners, children, or colleagues.
